Tetracycline Hydrochloride Eye Ointment BP and USP

Tetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment is a broad-spectrum antibiotic drug. It has antibacterial properties and can be used in clinical settings to treat diseases such as conjunctivitis and keratitis caused by sensitive bacteria. It also has a certain effect in the treatment of trachoma.

Specification: 1%, 15g, 20g, 30g.

Indication

Tetracycline hydrochloride ophthalmic ointment can treat diseases such as conjunctivitis and keratitis caused by sensitive bacteria, and also has a certain effect on the treatment of trachoma.

Dosage and duration

  • Wash the eyes with boiled and cooled water before each application. Use sterile sodium chloride 0.9% for newborns.
  • Apply tetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment 1% into the conjunctival sac of both eyes:
    • Conjunctivitis: one application 2 times daily for 7 days
    • Trachoma: one application 2 times daily for 6 weeks
    • Prevention of neonatal conjunctivitis: one single application immediately after birth

Precautions 

Some patients may experience eye irritation symptoms after using tetracycline hydrochloride ophthalmic ointment, such as tearing and pain. Some patients may also have allergic reactions, such as itchy eyes and redness and swelling. If patients experience the above discomfort symptoms, it is recommended that they stop using the medication immediately and consult a doctor at the hospital.
