Amoxicillin capsules are a widely used antibiotic medication, suitable for treating infectious diseases caused by sensitive bacteria. Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, and infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract.
Amoxicillin is also sometimes used together with another antibiotic called clarithromycin (Biaxin) to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is sometimes used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole (Prevacid). Amoxicillin 500mg and 250mg are available as tablets or capsules and as an oral suspension. Many brands and forms of amoxicillin are available, and not all brands are listed on this leaflet.
